
CASSTOWN – Miami East used a six-run fourth inning and a nine-run sixth inning to propel itself to a 16-9 win over Versailles on Monday.
“It was a slugfest tonight.,” commented Miami East coach Brian Kadel. “We did a good job of responding in some tough situations. We are still working to make improvements defensively. Right now, our bats keep bailing us out of situations.”
One of those situations came after Miami East built a 7-1 lead with six runs in the bottom of them fourth.
“We scored six in the fourth inning to go up 7-1, but then gave up five in the fifth and one in the sixth to let them tie the game,” Kadel explained. “We then scored nine in the sixth to pull back in the lead. We gave up two more in the seventh, but were able to close out the game.”
Kyleigh Kirby went five-and-a-third in the circle, while Jacqueline Kadel went one-and-two-thirds. They combined to strike out six and allowed 13 hits.
Miami East connected on 15 hits with Kyleigh Kirby driving in five runs and scoring two runs on three hits. Kadel scored three runs and drove in another on three hits as well.
Rachael Haak, Madison Maxson and Kallie Teeters all had two hits each, while Kayly Fetters hit a home run. Also recording hits were Reagan Howell and Abigail Kadel.
Miami East improves to 5-0 on the season.
