BRADFORD – The Bradford softball team started the season with a 2-3 record and then dropped two straight games after a four-game win streak midway through the season. At 6-5 in the middle of April, many wrote Bradford off as a team who lost too much talent from last year’s state championship team.
The tone has changed drastically as Bradford has reeled off eight straight wins, including a huge win over Greenville and a 25-3 run rule victory over Covington, the current leader in the Three Rivers Conference standings.
The eighth consecutive win came on Monday in a 12-1 victory over Milton-Union.
In the contest Bradford allowed just 2 hits thanks to the solid defense and the pitching of Nylani Beireis and Izzy Hamilton. One of those hits was a home run by Milton-Union’s Jenna Booher in the top of the fifth inning, but by then the outcome was never in doubt.
Bradford took control early with five runs in the first and then scored three in the third and four in the fourth to take a 12-0 lead. The Lady Railroaders had 16 base runners in four innings as they racked up 13 hits and walked four times.
The big hits for Bradford were a double by Nylani Beireis and a two-run triple by Austy Miller. Zoe Brewer drove in three runs on three hits and scored a run, while Izzy Hamilton had three hits with an RBI and two runs scored.
Bradford improves to 14-5 overall and remains tied with Arcanum at the top of the WOAC standings with an 8-0 record in the league.
