COVINGTON – The Buccaneer seniors – Ayden Rench, Gavin Fraley and four-year players Jake Dilley Jensen Wagoner and Kody Nelson – have meant a lot to the program and were recognized during “Senior Night” in the home finale against Jackson Center on Monday.
Unfortunately the out one in the game wasn’t what Covington hoped for as the Buccaneers fell by the score of 10-5.
Jackson Center scored 2 in the first and 1 in the third before Covington cut the deficit to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. A four-run fifth inning by Jackson Center was too much to overcome even though the Buccaneers continued to battle with 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth and another in the seventh.
Covington tallied 8 hits on the night with Tyler Jay, Carter Owens and Tanner Palsgrove each having 2 hits. Kody Nelson and Trey Schhmelzer had the two other hits for Covington.
Jake Dilley had the ball on the hill for Covington and went five innings before Kian French and Trey Schmelzer threw the final two innings. Dilley struck out 6 and walked just one batter, but two errors in the field cost Covington.
The Buccaneers fall to 8-10 overall.
