
PLEASANT HILL – Milton-Union used a big third quarter to spark a 55-49 victory over neighboring rival Newton on Wednesday.
The score was deadlocked at 13-13 after one and the Bulldogs trailed 24-20 at the break. Milton-Union outscored Newton 16-7 in the third period to take a 36-31 lead into the final frame and then closed out the victory by scoring 19 points down the stretch.
Blake Brumbaugh and Cooper Brown led Milton-Union with 18 points each and Connor Yates contributed with 10 points as three Bulldogs reached double digit in scoring.
The Bulldogs shot 39.1% from the floor (18-for-46) and 43.8% from the free throw line (14-for-32). Milton-Union also held a 10-14 edge in turnovers and out rebounded Newton 34-27.
Newton was led in scoring by Quinn Peters and Harold Oburn, both scoring 17 points.
The Indians shot 46.5% from the floor (20-43) and 42.9% from the free throw line (6-14).
The win improves Milton-Union’s record to 5-2 on the season. The Bulldogs host Oakwood on December 30th.
