COLUMBUS – Covington freshman Elyza Long competed at the state meet for the first time in her career and finished 18th in the 3200 with a time of 12:15.43. It was her second state experience as she also qualified for state in cross country this past fall.
In a group of fast runners, Long was just one of two freshmen in the field, the other being Lauren Moore of Fort Loramie, who Long defeated by .01 of a second at regionals.
Long advanced to state by taking fourth at districts in a time of 12:45.43 and then fourth at regionals in a time of 11:46.07. The Covington freshman was also the TRC champion in the 3200 and the 1600 earlier this spring.
