BRANDT – It took a while for Miami East to get going, but once the bats heated up the Lady Vikings were unstoppable in an 18-4 win over Bethel on Monday.
“We started slow tonight, but we were able to get the bats going,” commented Miami East coach Brian Kadel. “It was good to be able to recover from not starting strong.”
Bethel didn’t start slow, however. The Lady Bees took advantage of a pair of Miami East miscues in the field to plate four runs in the second inning.
It may have been the spark Miami East needed to ignited the offense as the Lady Vikings scored three runs in the third and then took a 9-4 lead with 6 runs in the fourth. Two more runs by Miami East followed in the fifth and then a seven-run inning in the sixth pretty much sealed the deal.
Kyleigh Kirby was stellar once again in the circle as she allowed just 3 hits and struck out 6 in going the distance. Kirby helped out herself with a big game at the plate as she drove in 7 runs and scored 3 times on 3 hits, two of those being home runs and the other a double.
Madison Maxson went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 4RBI and 3 runs scored, while Kayly Fetters had 2 hits in the night.
The win boosts Miami East’s record to 16-3 overall and 10-1 in the TRC.
