WEST MILTON – It’s hard to win when you commit eight errors in the field, which is what Milton-Union realized in a 9-4 loss to Franklin Monroe on Friday.
Through the first two games – a 12-5 win over Lehman and a 12-1 win over Newton – the Lady Bulldogs had only committed two errors in the field, so Friday’s defensive effort was uncharacteristic of Milton-Union softball.
The Lady Bulldogs went ahead 2-1 after one and pushed their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
But the wheels fell off for Milton-Union in the top of the fifth as Franklin Monroe was able to take advantage of errors for an eight-run inning that put the home team in dire straights.
Milton-Union was able to score a run in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a six-run deficit.
The positive for the Lady Bulldogs was the fact that they outhit Franklin Monroe 8-5 in the contest.
Rhi Emmons, Jenna Booher and Taylor Falb each connected on two hits in the game, while Regan Robinson and Raegan Fulton had two hits each.
Carly Zimmer went five-and-two-thirds in the circle and struck out nine batters. Madeline McGuffy and Miley Jones came in to finish out the game in relief.
The loss drops Milton-Union to 2-1 on the season.
