PIQUA, OHIO- During the pandemic shutdown two years ago, my business was shut down for three months and during that time, I just watched a lot of TV…mainly reruns of The Andy Griffin Show. There was one episode where the town mechanic, Goober Beasley, was trying to satisfy one of his customers, noted leadfoot Gilly Walker, who complained that his car didn’t run right. Goober finally told him he just drove too fast and his famous quote was “speed, speed, speed” that is what your problem is!
Well, after watching the Piqua Indians vs. the Northmont Thunderbolts scrimmage Friday night at Alexander Stadium, speed, speed, speed was in full view on the Purk Field artificial turf with both teams breaking off long offensive plays. Piqua’s Dre-Sean Roberts and Ryan Brown along with Northmont’s Cahke” Cortner ran up and down the field for several long runs, leaving flailing defenders in their wake.
Piqua senior quarterback Brady Ouhl threw three touchdown passes and the Indians offense looked like it was running on all cylinders in preparation for next Friday’s regular season opener against Dayton Belmont at Welcome Stadium. In last year’s contest at Piqua, the Indians cruised past the Lions with a 54-0 victory that was decided in the first quarter.
