
SIDNEY – Bethel overcame one frustrating inning to escape with a 13-10 victory over Lehman Catholic on Tuesday.
After building a 6-0 lead with two runs in the first and four more in the second, Bethel nearly saw the wheels come off its victory wagon as Lehman plated nine runs in the bottom of the second.
Fortunately, the Lady Bees regrouped and shut down the Cavaliers behind the pitching of Lily Williams, who limited Lehman to just one more run throughout the final five innings.
This gave Bethel time to come back, which it did as it scored 2 runs in the third and another in the fourth to tie the score at 9-9 heading into the fifth inning.
The Lady Bees then took the lead with a run in the top of the fifth and extended it to 12-9 with two more runs in the top fo the sixth.
After a run by Lehman in the bottom of the sixth, Bethel sealed the contest with one final run in the seventh.
Kaylee Eschete opened the game in the circle for Bethel and Lily Williams came in to pick up the win. Williams allowed 6 hits and struck out seven batters.
Offensively, Bethel connected on 13 hits with Kaylee Eschete leading the way with two runs scored and three RBI on three hits – one being a home run. Alyson Bird also homered in the contest, while Lily Williams helped out her cause at the plate with three hits, an RBI and three runs scored.
