
COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs broke open a close 2-1 game with 3 runs in the third and 5 more in the fourth to spark a 12-2 run-rule victory over Bethel in TRC action on Thursday.
The Lady Buccs scored a pair of runs in the first, but Bethel appeared to give itself an emotional lift as Lily Williams blasted a solo home run to dead center in the top of the second and then the Lady Bees held Covington in check in the bottom half of the inning.
But Covington’s bats heated up in a hurry resulting in eight runs over the next two innings to take control of the game with pitcher Meg Rogers in the circle.
Bethel scored a run in the top of the sixth, but Covington ended the game with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
For Covington, it had 13 hits as a team and played error-free ball in the field. Nigella Reck led Covington with 4 hits on 4 at bats. She drove in 4 runs and scored 2. Karyanne Turner drove in 4 runs and scored 3 times on w hits, while Meg Rogers helped out her cause with a pair of hits and sting 4 times.
Rogers picked up the win as she pitched all but the final out and limited Bethel to just 3 hits. Alexa Hitchcock went one-third of an inning.
Bethel tallied 5 hits and committed 1 error in the field. Lily Williams had the home run, while Alyson Bird connected on an RBI. Allie Shen had 2 hits, while Releigh Fisher and Morgan Rodgers each had a hit.
Williams went 3 innings in the circle and Bird went 2 innings. The duo combined to strike out 4 batters and walked 3.
