COVINGTON – Covington had its way with Brookville through four innings as it built a 10-1 lead.
But Brookville made a game of it by plating six runs in the top of the fifth and four more in the top of the sixth.
Fortunately for Covington, the bats were hot all night long and Covington scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and seven more in the bottom of the sixth to hold on for a 19-11 win on a very cold, windy afternoon.
The Lady Buccs pounded out 20 hits in the contest, but surrendered 13 hits to the Blue Devils in what was a very uncharacteristic afternoon.
Meg Rogers went six innings, allowing 11 runs on 13 hits and striking out eight batters. Erika Gostomsky kept Brookville scoreless without a hit in the final inning to pick up the save.
Gostomsky was also potent at the plate as she went 3-for-4 on the day and drove in two runs. Mara Newhouse, Taylor Kirker, Karyanne Turner and Nigella Reck also had three hits a piece with Newhouse driving in six runs – three of those coming on a bases loaded double.
Reaghan Lemp connected on two hits, while Kamryn Barnes, Meg Rogers and Alexa Hitchcock each had a hit.
The win improves Covington’s record to 2-0 on the season.
