DAYTON – After a hard-fought victory 24 hours earlier against previously unbeaten Miami East, the Covington Lady Buccs kept the momentum rolling with a dominating 20-1 victory over Northridge on Friday.
And it was solid pitching and defense that prevented Northridge from putting runners in scoring position throughout much of the contest. Meg Rogers, Erika Gostomsky and Nigella Reck combined in the circle to allow just three hits and one run in five innings of work.
Defensively, Covington played stellar in the field as it didn’t commit a single error, which is a huge accomplishment considering the Lady Bucc offense scored runs at will.
Covington plated 10 runs in the first, 3 in the second, 2 in the third, 1 in the fourth and 4 in the fifth thanks to 14 hits and 4 errors committed by Northridge.
Karyanne Turner led Covington with 3 hits and drove in a pair of runs while scoring 3 runs herself. Meg Rogers, Kierra Hinnegan, Nigella Reck and Taylor Kirker all had two hits a piece, while Parker Metz, Mara Newhouse, Reaghan Lemp, Erika Gostomsky and Kamryn Barnes recorded hits as well.
As a team Covington only struck out twice at the plate, while the Lady Bucc pitchers struck out 11 batters.
