
COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs improved to 4-0 on the season with a two-game sweep of Tippecanoe in a double-header on Saturday.
In the opening game Covington came back from a 6-1 deficit to defeat the Red Devils 8-7. The big inning for Covington game in the sixth as the Lady Buccs scored 6 runs to take a 7-6 lead into the seventh inning.
After Tipp tied the score at 7-7 with a run in the top of the seventh, Covington responded with the game-winning run in the bottom half of the inning.
Nigella Reck with six innings in the circle for Covington, allowing 12 hits and striking out one batter. Meg Rogers tossed the final inning, allowing 2 hits.
At the plate, Taylor Kirker and Nigella Reck connected on 2 hits each as the Lady Buccs racked up 10 hits in the contest.
In the second game Covington rolled to a 10-1 win on 12 hits.
The Lady Buccs scored 2 runs in the second, 6 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth, while Tippecanoe scored 1 run in the fifth.
Erika Gostomsky went 4 innings in the circle for Covington and struck out 2 batters, w while allowing just 3 hits. Meg Rogers tossed three innings and struck out 6 batters without allowing a hit.
At the plate, Rogers had 2 hits and Nigella Reck drove in 4 runs. Kamryn Barnes went 2-for-3 with 2 hits, 2 RBI, scored two runs and hit a home run.
