
COVINGTON – Milton-Union traveled to Covington on Thursday and came away with an impressive 57-51 win in overtime to improve to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the TRC.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a fast start as Rachel Jacobs scored six of her 12 point in the opening frame to go along with a pair of buckets by Jenna Brumbaugh, a three-pointer by Ava Bererich, a basket by Annie Smith and a free throw from Shannon Brumbaugh. This all led to a 16-11 lead after one.
Milton-Union pushed its lead to 31-20 at the break with a big second quarter where Jenna Brumbaugh scored five points on two baskets and a free throw, Shannon Brumbaugh hit on two baskets, Kearsyn Robison knocked down a three-pointer and Annie Smith hit a basket. Kate Copp also connected on a free throw as well.
Covington made some defensive adjustments in the second half and was able to cut the margin to 38-37 at the end of the third and then took the lead for the first time with 1:30 left in the game on a three-pointer by freshman Avery Koffer.
But Milton-Union respondents quickly to send the game into overtime with the score deadlocked at 49-49. In the process Kearsyn Robison knocked down two treys and Ava Berberich hit on another for the Lady Bulldogs – shots that were huge momentum boosters for Milton-Union.
In overtime, Robison started things off with her third three-pointer off the game and hit on three free throws, while Rachel Jacobs dropped in a bucket and a pair of free throws and Shannon Brumbaugh connected on a field goal. Meanwhile, the Bulldog defense stifled Covington and held the Lady Buccs to just two points in overtime to pull out a thrilling 57-51 win.
The Lady Bulldogs used balanced scoring as Rachel Jacobs and Kearsyn Robison tallied 12 points each, while Jenna Brumbaugh and Shannon Brumbaugh both finished with 11 points. Ava Berberich hit on two big three-pointers for 6 points, while Annie Smith scored 4 points and Kate Copp had 1 point.
