
(TROY) Mark Goldner has been head tennis coach for a few years at Troy High School…52 for the boys and 2022 marks the 14th for the girls team.
Today the Lady Trojans started the season facing Sidney Lehman at the Premier Health Troy Tennis Courts at Ferguson Field next to Troy High School and swept the Cavaliers 5-0.
Junior Elizabeth Niemi started things off on the right track for Troy at third singles with a 6-0/6-0 victory over Katie Huelskamp even though she was wearing a cast on her left arm due to a wrist injury.
Next up, at second singles, Senior Josie Romick came away with 6-0/6-0 win over Sara Lins.
In doubles action, Olivia Johnston and Casey Rogers took down Ashlyn Hamblin and Eliza Westerhaile 6-0/6-0 at first doubles and Katie Bertke and Gwen Turnbull defeated Evelyn Johnston and Vivi Chen 6-1/6-0 at second double.
The match of the day was between Troy freshman Nina Short and Lehman’s Lilly Williams with Short besting Williams 6-1/7-5.
Troy heads to Beavercreek tomorrow and will be taking their full squad of 29 players to Greene County.
