COVINGTON – Miami East entered the post season red hot after winning 10 of the last 11 games to close out the regular season and followed by steamrolling Northeastern 53-12 and Carlisle 52-25 to open the tournament.
Unfortunately, the Lady Vikings saw their season end in the sectional final on Monday in a 47-30 defeat to Versailles – a team Miami East defeated earlier in the year 41-33.
And it was one of those nights where the ball wouldn’t drop for Miami East, especially after the Lady Vikings jumped out to quick 8-2 lead. Over the remainder of the half and into the first few minutes of the third period, Miami East managed just three points as Versailles took a 25-11 lead.
Miami East continued to play hard throughout, but saw shot after shot bounce off the rim – shots where the execution on offense led to opening looks.
Overall, Miami East converted on 8 of 38 shots from the floor for 21.1% and was 3-for-19 from three-point range for 15.8%. Those averages were way below the season average the team put up in compiling a 19-6 record – 40.6% from the floor and 29.9% on three-pointers.
The Lady Vikings did convert 11 of 19 from the free throw line, but it wasn’t enough to overcome shooting struggles from the floor.
