CASSTOWN – Miami East had things going its way until Milton-Union put together a six-run inning in the seventh that ultimately led to an 8-6 defeat in nine inning for the Lady Vikings.
Miami East scored a run in the bottom of the fist and took a 2-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth, which remained the score through six innings.
“Up to that point Jacqueline (Kadel) had stuck out six, walked four and scattered four hits,” said Miami East coach Brian Kadel. “We worked out of a couple of jams making some plays on defense.”
Things unraveled for the Lady Vikings defensively in the top of the seventh.
“In the seventh, we started the inning with two errors and a walk,” Kadel explained. “By the end of the inning we had five errors, gave up three hits and a walk.”
It all led to six unearned runs and a 6-2 lead for Milton-Union.
Miami East battled back by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
“We showed a lot of heart by coming right back and plating four runs with two outs to tie it,” Kadel said.
Neither team could score in the eight and Milton-Union scored two runs in the top of the ninth to hand the Lady Vikings an 8-6 loss.
“As a team we are showing some signs of progress,” said Kadel. “We need to be able to put seven innings of defense together.”
Maddie Maxson was 3-4 with a double to lead the Lady Vikings at the plate, while Jacqueline Kadel struck out seven and walked six pitching all 9 innings.
Miami East falls to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the TRC.
