WEST MILTON – A week ago Miami East dropped a heartbreaking 8-6 game in extra innings to Milton-Union in a critical TRC matchup, but Tuesday the Lady Vikings redeemed themselves with a convincing 17-5 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
“Great team effort tonight,” said Miami East coach Brian Kadel. “We had fourteen hits and our defense is starting to settle in. We are making plays and limiting big innings. We will try to keep the momentum going heading into Franklin Monroe tomorrow night.”
Miami East took a 3-1 lead after one, but Milton-Union tied the score at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Both teams scored a run each in the fourth to keep the score knotted at 4-4, but Miami East scored 13 unanswered runs over the next three at bats – plating five in the fifth, two in the sixth, and six runs in the seventh.
The Lady Bulldogs, who entered the game leading the TRC with an 8-1 league record, managed a run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 17-5.
Jacqueline Kadel had a great game in the circle against a very good team as she went all seven innings with two strikeouts, five walks and seven hits allowed. Only three of the five runs scored by Milton-Union were earned runs.
At the plate, Jacqueline Kadel was 3-for-4 with a triple and 3 runs scored, while Abigail Kadel drove in three runs on a 3-for-5 day. Rachael Haak was 2-for-3 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI and Jaycee Roeth went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Maddie Maxson hit a triple and Kylie Gentis drove in two runs.
The win moves Miami East within striking distance of a second straight league title as it improves to 7-2 in the TRC and 8-5 overall – one game behind Covington (8-1) in the league standings, who the Vikings host on May 4th.
