
MIAMISBURG – Covington’s wrestling team kicked off their season at the Dayton Christian Invitational on Saturday. The Buccs were unable to send their full lineup, but managed to finish in 5th place out of 17 teams at the event.
Carson Taylor led Covington with a first place finish at 113 lbs, beating Talawanda’s Gavin Boner in the finals. Taylor went 4-0 with three pins on the day.
Michael Hagan (120 lbs) and Jericho Quinter (132) both finished as tournament runners-up. Hagan went 4-1 with 4 pins, falling to Legacy Christian’s Eli Campbell in the finals, while Quinter also went 4-1 overall with four pins, losing in the finals to Legacy Christian’s Dillon Campbell.
Caleb Ryman (126) finished in 4th place overall after going 2-1 in his pool then winning his next two to go 4-1 overall with three pins. His only loss was to tournament champion Nathan Attisano of Legacy Christian.
Also winning matches for Covington were Luke Brown (138, pin), Kaden Thompson (144), Jack Blumenstock (150, 2 pins), Mason Epperson (157, pin) and Zeb-Woodward-Roeth (215, pin).
Covington’s varsity competes next at the Mechanicsburg Invitational and the reserve team competes at the Versailles JV tournament, both on Saturday, December 10.
