TROY- The Troy Christian Eagles dugout chant in the bottom of the 5th inning of Tuesday’s game against Lehman was “3 more runs” and Matthew Major delivered by smashing a 3-run home run to end the game and giving the home team a 12-1 run rule win. It looked like the Lehman left fielder would catch the ball on the warning track but ran out of room as the ball sailed over the left field fence. Head coach Tony Ferraro was convinced the ball would be caught , calling for the Eagle runner on third base to tag up after the catch but that didn’t happen and the game was over.
The Eagles were up 8-1 at the end of 4 innings and starting pitcher Judah Simmons was cruising only allowing 1 hit, an earned run, striking out 9 and walking 2.
The Eagles scored 2 runs in the first and 6 more in the second and finished off the game with 4 in the bottom of the 5th.
The Eagles offense gave Simmons all the run support he needed with Lucas Day leading the way smashing 2 doubles and a triple knocking in 4, Matthew Major’s 3-run home run and older brother Ben Major scored 3 runs.
