
PLEASANT HILL – Trailing Mississinawa Valley 5-4 into their final at bat, the Lady Indians of Newton did what needed to be done by scoring the 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh to keep their season alive.
The Indians plated three runs in the first and then scored a run in the bottom of the fourth after the Blackhawks plated a run in the top half of the inning.
Mississinawa Valley then scored a run in the sixth and followed with three runs in the top of the seventh to take a stunning 5-4 lead with three outs left for Newton.
Newton plated the two runs needed to advance to the sectional final next Tuesday against Russia.
In all, Newton connected on 8 hits and had 2 errors in the field, while Mississinawa Valley had 5 hits and 2 error.
Laci Miller went the distance in the circle for Newton, striking out 2 and allowing only 5 hits.
Molly Norman went 3-for-4 at the plate with 3 RBI and a runs scored, while Laci Miller helped out her cause at the plate with 2 hits and 3 RBI. Layla VanCulin had 2 hits, while Camryn Gleason tripled and Ashley Evans singled.
