
The Newton Indians advanced in the sectional tournament on Saturday with a 70-54 win over Bradford, which avenged an 80-69 loss to the Railroaders just eight days ago.
The Indians jumped out to an early lead, taking a 19-12 lead after one, but Bradford was able to cut the deficit to 32-29 at the break thanks to the hot shooting of Parker Davidson.
Led by Chandler Peters, the Indians pulled away in the third period, pushing their advantage to a 13-point lead by the end of the third, 50-37.
From there Newton used the free throw line to its advantage in causing to the 16-point victory.
Four Indians scored in double figures with Chandler Peters leading the way with 24 points. Harold Oburn tallied 17, Hudson Montgomery scored 14 and Quentin Smith contributed with 10 points.
The Indians were 24 of 52 from the floor (46%) and 20 of 23 from the charity stripe (87%). Newton held a 39-27 advantage on the boards with Harold Oburn pulling down a game-high 13 boards.
Bradford was led by Parker Davidson, who scored a game-high 28 points, and an 11-point scoring effort by Landon Mills.
The Railroaders shot 28% from the field (18-65) with 10 buckets coming from behind the arc. Bradford was also 8 of 10 from the line.
