COVINGTON – This didn’t go well from Bradford for much of the game Wednesday night, but good teams find a way when things don’t go their way.
Bradford trailed Covington 13-10 after one and was in a double-digit deficit with just under 3:00 left in the half. To make matters worse, Bradford’s leading scorer Parker Davidson suffered an injury and was forced out of the game.
With Davidson out and shots bouncing in and out of the rim, Bradford’s competitive desire was display as it went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 26-22 at the break.
The Railroaders carried the momentum over after the break and outscored Covington 20-11 to take a 42-37 lead with one quarter to play, but Covington showed grit in the fourth and eventually tied the game at 51-51 win under one minute left.
With the clock ticking away, Bradford’s Owen Canan drilled a three-pointer – his third of the game -with 1.3 left to lift the Railroaders to a thrilling 54-51 win. It was Canan’s third trey of the game.
Landon Monnin led the Railroaders with a game-high 18 points, while Hudson Hill had 10 and Canan had nine.
Covington was led by Britton Miller, who finished with 16 points, and a 13-point effort by Brogen Angle.
The win improves Bradford’s record to 7-1 on the season and it will face Russia in the championship match of the Buccaneer Holiday Classic.
