
PIQUA – The Covington track & field program had several athletes on both the boys and girls teams qualify for the regional meet by finishing in the top four in various events. It all led to a fifth place finish in the team standings for the boys, while the girls finished eighth.
For the girls, Elyza Long, Jenna Belmaggio and Carlie Besecker advanced individually. Long finished 4th in the 3200 (12:45.43), Belmaggio took 4th in the discus (95’8″) and Besecker came in 4th in the long jump (15’11”). The 3200 (11:03.99) and 1600 (4:24.38) relay teams also took 4th.
Asher Long was the lone district champion for Covington as he won the 3200 in the time of 10:25.70. Devin Brummitt finished 3rd in the 800 (2:03.35), as did Ryan Remley in the discus (123’3″) and Hayden Barker in the shot put (44’3″). Jaeden Cole advanced by finishing 4th in the high jump with a height of 6-feet.
The boys 3200 relay team placed second (8:54.83) and the 1600 relay team finished 4th (3:40.57)
