The point differential between first and fourth place in the inaugural Three Rivers Conference wrestling meet was just 12 points, which shows just how close Miami East was to claiming a league championship despite missing several key wrestlers.
The Vikings finished with 135.5 points for fourth, just 12 points behind Covington, who took home the league championship with 147.5 team points.
Yet, Miami East was without returning state champion Max Shore at 126 pounds, returning state runner-up Cooper Shore at 113 pounds and returning district qualifier Dustin Winner – all three favored to win their respective weight classes.
Still, the Vikings managed to claim two individual titles and had four more wrestlers finish runner-up.
Taking individual championships were returning state placer David Davis at 157 pounds and sophomore Hunter Randall at 165 pounds.
Davis won by 18-3 tech fall, a 3:28 pin, a 1:21 pin and via default to claim his championship, while Randall recorded two pins in the times of 1:25 and 3:37.
Finishing runner-up were Layton Hughes (138), Chance Rust (144), Daniel Martin (150) and Mike Scherer (215), while freshman Chris Smith took third at 175 pounds and Aaron Mills finished fourth at 132 pounds.
