
COLUMBUS – The OHSAA is recognizing girls wrestling at state for the first time and three Miami County Wrestlers started off is grand fashion with wins in the first round of the tournament.
At 100 pounds Piqua’s Averi Wiley (16-1) dominated Lorelai Megery (19-14) with a 2:30 pin. Wiley will face Leah Willen (37-6) of Harrison in the quarterfinal tomorrow morning.
Miami East sophomore Kira Cole (36-0) was equally impressive as she recorded a 2:28 pin of Sarah Sphon (27-18) of Minerva in her opening match at state. Cole will face Mia Hotchkiss (14-5) in the quarterfinal.
Emma Hanrahan (28-9) of Tippecanoe advanced to the quarterfinal with a 2:20 pin of Marie Nina Kim (10-6) of Columbus Academy. Hanrahan will battle unbeaten Cassia Zammkitt (13-0) of Miamisburg in the quarterfinal.
The girls action resumes tomorrow morning at 11:30am.
