
The Miami East wrestling team finished third in the team standings in the Division III Sectional at Sidney Lehman Catholic High School on Saturday.
And in the process, the Vikings qualified nine wrestlers to next weekend’s D-III Districts at Hobart Arena in Troy – three of the wrestlers as sectional champions.
Returning state runner-up Cooper Shore won the title at 113 pounds with a 4-2 victory over Eli Campbell of Legacy Christian.
His older brother Max Shore, who is a returning state champion, dominated the 126-pound weight class with a :57 pin of Brayden Childers of Twin Valley South and a 20-5 technical fall victory over Legacy Christian’s Logan Artisan in the finals.
Another Viking returning state placer won a sectional title as senior David Davis captured a 7-2 win over Kane Epperly of Versailles in the finals at 157 pounds. He advanced to the championship round with a :14 pin of Maddix Turner of Dayton Christian and a 3″19 pin of Gabriel McGill of West Liberty-Salem.
Reaching the finals and finishing runner-up were Layton Hughes at 138 pounds, Chance Rust at 144 pounds, Daniel Martin at 150 pounds and Brake Bennett at 190 pounds.
Sophomore Hunter Randall finished third in the 165-pound weight class, while freshman Aaron Mills finished fourth at 132 pounds.
