LONDON,OHIO- The Tipp Red Devils were one game away from representing the Miami County in the state football finals…a feat last accomplished by the Piqua Indians…who won the title in 2006.
Standing in the way were the 13-1 Bloom-Carroll High School Bulldogs from Fairfield County, southeast of Columbus.
In the end, Bloom-Carroll’s dominating running game proved too much for the Red Devils as the Bulldogs rushed for 5 touchdowns in a 35-12 victory that sends them to the state division III finals next weekend to face Canfield who beat Parma Heights Holy Name by a 38-21 score.
Tipp was led by senior quarterback Liam Poronsky who accounted for 301 of the Red Devil’s 373 yards with 238 passing and another 63 on the ground. Poronsky scored on a 5 yard run but the point after was blocked and Josh Dietz ran through several missed tackles to score Tipp’s other points on a 34 yard pass and run from Poronsky and that point after try was also blocked.
Cael Liette added 50 yards on the ground and Stanley Cline hauled in 7 catches for 54 yards for the Red Devils.
Bloom-Carroll’s massive offensive line opened up hole after hole for Bulldog runners amassing 426 yards on the ground.
Tippecanoe finishes the season with a 13-2 record.
