
TROY – The Troy Trojans overcame five errors to beat Beavercreek 5-1 on Tuesday to advance to the district final against Mason on Thursday at 5:00pm at Centerville.
The difference for Troy was the quality pitching put forth by sophomore Hayden Frey and seniors Jacob Lucas and Trayce Mercer. The trio only allowed two hits on the afternoon and the lone run given up to Beavercreek was unearned.
Frey went five innings on the hill as Troy built a 3-0 lead until the Beavers scored in the top of the sixth. The Trojans plated two runs in the bottom half of the sixth on an RBI double by Zane Huelsman that scored Eli Smith and a sacrifice fly by Connor Hutchinson that scored Huelsman.
The Trojans shut down Beavercreek in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.
Overall, Troy tallied seven hits to just two for Beavercreek. Eli Smith had two hits, while Eli Donnan, Owen Harlamert, Matthew Hempker, Zane Huelsman and Ryder Kirtley all recorded one hit each. The hits by Harlemert and Huelsman went for extra bases on doubles.
Two runs for Troy were scored by Owen Harlemert, while Zane Huelsman, Ryder Kirtley and Eli Smith scored a run each.
