Trojans Walk Away with 49-41 Win in Nail Biter Against Vandalia Butler by Elise Hempker
TROY HIGH SCHOOL – The Trojans and Aviators were neck and neck until the last two minutes of their physical matchup Friday night.
Both teams came out of the gate slow, each struggling to score and penetrate each other’s tough defense.
Things started to heat up in the second quarter for the Trojans as shots began to fall. Senior Isaac Phillips added several points of his 18 points and junior Kellen Miller had 2 blocks. However, neither team could pull away and went into halftime with a score of 22-19 Troy.
After the break, it was still the same story. For every shot one team made, the other team quickly matched, both only putting up 12 points each in the third quarter.
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Troy began to pull away. After several blocks and a dunk by senior Hollis Terrell and key fouls that brought the Trojans to the free throw line, the Trojans were finally able to seal the game.

“We made big shots down the stretch, got the stops we needed to, and made free throws,” said Coach Mark Hess in regards to what won the game.

Next week Troy looks to take on Tippecanoe on senior night and a chance for first place in the league.

“We need to focus on getting better everyday,” explained Hess. “We need to come out on Friday and be the best version of ourselves.”

Troy will travel to Sidney Tuesday and then host Tippecanoe at home Friday at 7:15PM.
