
TROY — The Milton-Union baseball team had a couple early leads on Troy Christian.
But, the Eagles were too much for the Bulldogs in a 10-5 win in TRC action.
scored in its last five at bats, slugged two home runs and freshman Judah Simmons pitched three-plus innings of scoreless relief as the team improved to 2-0 overall and in the TRC.
Milton-Union, coming off an 18-1 loss to Franklin Monroe Friday, dropped to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the TRC.
The Bulldogs had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Peyton Nichols singled, stole second and came around to score on Wyatt Kimmel’s single.
Troy Christian took a 2-1 lead in the home second.
Matthew Major singled, Connor Frye walked and Simmons was hit by a pitch.
Major scored on a wild pitch and Frye scored on Paul McDonald’s fielder’s choice.
Milton-Union took a 3-2 lead in the third.
Nathan Thompson drilled a two-run single, before Troy Christian answered in a big way in the home third.
With one out, Lucas Day hit a solo home run.
After Camden Koukol reached on an error, Matthew Major slugged a two-run homer to make it 5-3.
Milton-Union tied it 5-5 in the fourth when Nichols — who was 3-for-4 — drilled a two-run single. But Simmons, who had relieved started Frye in the inning, blanked the Bulldogs in their final three at bats.
Troy Christian took the lead for good in the home fourth.
Marcus O’Neal was hit by a pitch with one out and scored on Gavin Blore’s single.
Ben Major doubled to put runners second and third and bring Day to the plate.
Day, who tripled and homered in his first two at bats, doubled to right field to make it 8-5.
The Eagles added single runs in the fifth and the sixth for the final tally.
In the fifth, Simmons singled and George Knostman ran for him.
He came around to score when Blore reached on an error.
Troy Christian added the final run in the sixth in a “Major” way.
Ben Major hit his second double and scored on Matthew Major’s sacrifice fly.
Frye and Simmons combined on an eight-hitter for Troy Christian, striking out three and hitting two batters.
Kimmel and Micah Russell combined on a nine-hitter for Milton-Union.
They struck out 11, hit three batters and walked two.
