TROY, OHIO-Troy and Greenville opened the season at Market Street Field with the Trojans scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruising to a 9-2 victory.

Troy then added single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings and tacked on 2 more in the bottom of the 6th.

Troy senior starting pitcher Trayce Mercer went 4 1/3 innings, striking out 7 and giving up no earned runs on a cold and windy Monday afternoon. Connor Hutchinson and Caleb Akins pitched the final 2 2/3 inning to seal the victory for the Trojans.

Sophomore Hayden Frey led the Trojan offense with 2 hits and scored 2 runs while senior Jacob Lucas had 2 rbi’s and Ryder Kirtley added 2 hits.

The teams play tonight at Greenville.
