
KETTERING – Miami East saw a great season come to an end on Wednesday in the regional semifinal at Kettering Fairmont’s Trent Arena with a heartbreaking 50-40 loss to Preble Shawnee (23-3).
The Vikings end their season with a 24-3 record.
Preble Shawnee got out to a fast start by taking a 13-10 lead after and a 24-15 lead at the break.
Miami East battled back to cut the deficit to 31-26 at the end of three and closed the gap to 36-34 with just under two minutes left. Unfortunately the Vikings couldn’t overtake Shawnee down the stretch as the Arrows scored six straight points to seal the game.
Overall, it was a great defensive game for Miami East, especially the effort by Wes Enis, who held Preble Shawnee’s leading scorer Mason Shrout to four first half points and 15 for the game. Shrout entered the game averaging 23 points-per-game.
Miami East struggled offensively, but still managed to stay within striking distance until the final minute. Wes Enis led the Vikings with 12 points.
For Preble Shawnee, Logan Hawley, who averaged 8 points throughout the year, led the way with a game-high 18 points. Mason Shrout finished with 15 points, eight coming at the free throw line.
Even though it was a tough ending for Miami East, the silver lining is the fact that the majority of the roster will return next season.
