
CASSTOWN – Miami East, the top ranked team in the state in the AP Poll, kept its impressive season rolling with a hard-fought 46-34 victory over a gritty Lehman Catholic team on Friday.
It was obvious Lehman was focused on containing the Vikings’ leading scorers Wes Enis and Jacob Roeth throughout the contest, but Miami East had other players step up in critical situations at both ends of the floor.
Offensively, Connor Apple nailed two clutch three-pointers, while Cameron Monnin and Bryce Haught dropped in treys as well. Devon Abshire connected on a pair of buckets in key situation as well to increase the momentum.
Miami East built a 15-12 lead after one and then pushed its advantage to 25-18 at the break. In the process, Wes Enis drilled two three-pointers and connected on a pair of free throws, while Jacob Roeth took advantage of opportunities driving to the basket.
Lehman hung with the Miami East in the third by matching the Vikings point-for-point, but Miami East was able to pull away in the final frame for a 12-point victory.
Wes Enis led the way with a game-high 18 points, while Jacob Roeth tallied 12 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.
The Vikings held a huge advantage at the free throw line by making 16 of 19 free throws to just 4 of 6 for Lehman.
Miami East also held a slim advantage on the boards by pulling down 24 rebounds to 23 for Lehman and also held an advantage in turnovers , 6 to 10.
The Vikings converted on 35% from the floor (12-34), while Lehman shot 29% (13-44).
The win improves Miami East’s record to 15-1 overall and 9-0 in the TRC, while Lehman drops to 8-6 overall and 4-5 in the league.
