
CASSTOWN – Miami East and Troy Christian finished off a game that was delayed on April 6 due to weather and then played out the second game in league action. The Vikings ended up winning both contests by the scores of 4-3 and 5-3.
In the game that was continued, the Vikings won in extra innings 4-3 by scoring a run in the top of the ninth. Miami East scored two runs in the first and Troy Christian tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to send the game into extra innings.
Miami East plated a run in the top of the eighth, but Troy Christian extended the game with a run in the bottom half of the inning before the Vikings scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth.
Connor Apple, Luke Hammaker and Michael Till contributed to the thrilling win on the hill. Apple went five innings and struck out 13 batters. Michael Till followed in the sixth before being replaced by Luke Hammaker after the Eagles tied the game. Hammaker closed out the game over the next three and one-third innings.
The Vikings racked up seven hits with Connor Apple and Luke Hammaker recording two hits each, while Owen Haak, Landon Scott and Layton Hughes all connected on a hit each.
In the second game Miami East outhit Troy Christian 10 to 2 in a 5-3 victory.
Luke Hammaker and Michael Till put together stellar efforts on the hill with Hammaker tossing four innings and Till pitching three innings.
The Vikings scored three runs in the first and two in the sixth, while Troy Christian plated two runs in the first and one in the seventh.
Luke Hammaker had three hits and Keidin Pratt had two hits, while the other five hits for Miami East came off the bats of Vincent Crane, Michael Hohenstein, Layton Hughes, Michael Till and Landon Scott.
Miami East improves its record to 8-6 overall and 6-5 in the TRC.
